The After-School Fashion Design and Technology Program, also called Stitching Dreams, gives children in marginalized communities practical fashion and technology skills. The profile records a launch, and a workshop for educators to widen awareness of the programme.
The programme is built from three components: a curriculum covering sewing, garment construction, 3D modelling, and wearable technology; after-school workshops with experienced instructors; and visits from industry makers so learners meet current practice.
It aims to give children hands-on experience, room to create together, and a place to show their work. Supporters can help with money for materials and training, with in-kind gifts, or by speaking as a guest maker.
Materials the programme asks for: needles and pins, thread, fabric, sewing machines, tape measures, scissors, a short rule, brown paper, notebooks, seam rippers, pencils, and pens.
