About the foundation

Rooted in Ho West. Accountable to girls and young mothers.

Somnia Osbrain Foundation LBG, formerly Osbrain Cares Foundation, is organised as a company limited by guarantee: a board, an executive, managers, and the people who deliver the work.

Somnia Osbrain Foundation LBG is a Ghanaian non-profit founded in 2019 and based in Bakpe, Ho West District of the Volta Region. Formerly known as Osbrain Cares Foundation, it is a legally registered organisation working with vulnerable communities — especially teenage mothers, adolescent girls, and marginalized families — to break cycles of poverty linked to teenage pregnancy.

The foundation works with communities, schools, district authorities, and platforms such as GlobalGiving, a vetted partner since September 2024. Programmes are designed with the people they are for, through the Community Engagement Series.

What we believe

Why we care

Every person deserves an equal chance to advance, whatever their limitations. A past wrong is not repaired by another wrong. The way forward is perseverance and modesty, unlocking potential. The foundation walks with every child on that journey. Through collaboration, innovation, and empathy, it aims to motivate the children of young mothers: a growth mindset, entrepreneurial aspiration, and a place each child can call home.

Operating model

Find her. Listen to her. Design with her. Implement with her.

Girl-centered design, practised through the Community Engagement Series and shaped with Mercy Corps GirlSPARKS: Find Her, Listen to Her, Design with Her. Girls’ voices guide the programmes. Education — scholarships, bridge courses, and life skills — is how young mothers re-enter or continue school.

Find Her. Through the Community Empowerment Series, the foundation talks with marginalized communities to identify what drives teenage pregnancy, and listens to teenage mothers and pregnant adolescents.
Listen to Her. Girls are given safe spaces to tell their stories. The foundation builds ways of listening, then uses those insights in its decisions.
Design with Her. Using social responsibility and resources already in the community, girls become catalysts for change, and human-centered designs go out through them to improve other lives.
Implement with Her. Training and support let her lead initiatives, receive open feedback, and, through mentorship, become a role model for others.

The foundation aligns its work with these Sustainable Development Goals. Education is the heart of the response, and children cannot thrive in an unsupportive environment. The profile cites the 2023 SDG report’s warning on poverty and out-of-school children. Climate Action is named as a priority; the profile does not describe a separate climate programme.
